After the Molt

Spread the love

My son spent some of his hard earned money recently on a new pet…a red claw crab.

I wasn’t exactly excited over this new pet when my son first proposed the idea of buying one. I tried my hardest to talk him OUT of buying the thing. But, he was insistent that he wanted to use his money to buy a crab! So, I relented.

Much to my surprise, Rudy (I voted to name him Eugene after Mr. Crabs on Spongebob with no luck) is a fascinating little fella.

He runs sideways all over his tank and can climb EVERYTHING! If he could escape that tank he would. He seems to stare you down when you enter the room and I’m pretty sure he’d like nothing better than to pinch one of us.

One day, about two weeks after we got him, my son came bounding down the stairs to let us know that Rudy was molting! Sure enough, there was an empty shell inside the log where Rudy like to hide and, next to it, a sickly white looking crab without an exterior shell.

We watched, fascinated, as Rudy ate his former shell, its full of the nutrients he needs after a molt, and quickly regrew another, bigger, shell.

It happened amazingly quickly! Within a week, Rudy was back out in the tank, side-walking and waving his claw at anyone who dared look at him too long.

As I watched this process, I realized that we aren’t so different from Rudy! One day, ready or not, we’re going to molt.

Our internal man, our soul, will MOLT and leave this body behind.

Paul talks about it in 2 Corinthians but he uses an example that was well known to him vocationally…tents!

For we know that if the earthly tent [our physical body] which is our house is torn down [through death], we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:1 Amplified

Much like my sons pet crab and Paul’s tent we all have a body that we live in. However, one day, we will leave that body through death. But, death is not the end! We have a destination beyond this world.

How comforting to know that, if we have accepted Christ as our savior, we have a tent (or shell) waiting on us that isn’t made with human hands.

An eternal tent in the eternal heavens.

Like Rudy’s molting process, death won’t leave us in the grave. If we know Jesus, it simply gives us a better body than the one we have now to run around in!

What a blessed promise and assurance given to us by the sacrifice of our precious savior!

If you don’t have the assurance of KNOWING Jesus today, I invite you to say this simple prayer:

Jesus, I am a sinner. I believe that you are the Son of God and that you came to this earth and died on the cross so that I could be forgiven of my sins and live eternally with You. I ask that you forgive me of my sins and live in my heart. Amen

If you prayed that prayer with sincerity you are saved. Find a Bible and ready it daily! It will change your life! Search out a church that teaches the Bible and become a functioning member in the body of Christ!

There’s nothing greater that Knowing where you are going after the Molt!!!!
