Kids squeal in delight and parents silently moan…a Snow Day!
All is good while the kids are able to throw snow balls, build snowmen, and sled.
But, what’s a mom to do when it’s too cold to stay outside or the kids tired of being outside?
How do you keep cabin fever and the snow day blues at bay?
Here are a few tried and true ideas to keep your kids entertained when it’s time to come inside on a snow day.
- Build Forts!
Drag out the blankets, pillows, and every chair you own and build blanket forts. I know, it’s a bit of a pain to put up and clean up but it’s hours of fun! The imaginative possibilities are endless! A nap can turn into a campout inside a blanket fort and books are fascinating when read in a fort by flash-light.
2. Game Day
Are Candy Land and Monopoly growing stale in your closet? Drag them out and enjoy some quality family time. Prefer gaming systems? Have a family playoff with your favorite game
3. Arts and Crafts
When it’s cold outside and your stuck indoors it’s time to drag out the craft kits that Grandma bought the kids for Christmas! If the activity is messy don’t sweat it! 4. Share your favorite Childhood Movie
What could be better to do when yours stuck indoors than watch a movie? But, don’t just watch any old movie! Step outside the box and watch your favorite childhood movie with your kids? You’ll enjoy the trip down memory lane and You might be surprised to learn that your kids love your favorite movies too!
A snow day doesn’t have to equal a stressful day!
5. Read!
Reading is a perfect indoor activity for Snow Days. Almost every child enojoys being read to! Take advantage of your enforced together time to read as a family. A few of our family favorites Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Summer or the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls, and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.
