I hear so many people during this difficult time saying, “Where is God? Why isn’t he stopping this?” They want Him to instantaneously fix everything! After all, if He is real and if He loves us why does He let us suffer?
That is a question that has been asked since the beginning of time.
And, it’s a question that I understand all to well. There have been situations in my life that have caused me to cry out to Jesus in frustration and say, “WHERE ARE YOU? FIX THIS!”
Jesus died on a cross but His death, unlike ours, was not permanent! He rose again! He came back to life. HE WON! He was proven to be God, doing only what God can truly do!
Jesus has won victory over death and the grave and, as a born again believer, I share that with Him….so why do I have to go through hardships here and now?
When I accept Him as my Savior and ask Him to become the Lord of my life I share in that victory! I win the battle over sin and death.
So, if he won, and I vicariously through Him, why do I have to go through difficult times?
Why do I have to experience heart break, sickness, sadness, and death.
Why don’t I have a perfect existence.
John 16 records Jesus’ words on this topic:
In this world you will have trouble
John 16:33a NIV
Jesus never said we wouldn’t live through difficulty here on earth. In fact, he promised that we would because we live in a fallen world! It is fallen because of the sin of man, not because of anything the Creator did or didn’t do!
I live in this world so, YES, bad things are going to happen.
I live in this world so, YES, bad things are going to happen. Not because of the Creator! Because of the Sin of man!
However, I have Jesus. The assurance that He walks with me through EVERYTHING is mine! I am never alone. I have joy and peace that defy explanation. I have Jesus.
Most importantly, I have the promise of a future that is beyond description.
Jesus spoke constantly of the Kingdom of God. Of laying up treasure for THAT kingdom.
It’s kind of like saving money for vacation. When you save that money you are just living normal everyday life. Filled with ups and downs. But, as you put money in your vacation fund you have the promise of a great time to come.
On this earth, bad things will happen! But, I have a heavenly savings account and I have the promise of eternity with Jesus. Yes, things can be ugly here! But, as I continue to walk with Jesus. As I pray and read his Word. When I choose to praise Him even though things look bad around me, I am laying up “money” in my heavenly savings account.
It may seem far away, but it is real.
What are you saving for today? Are you living in the moment. Doing what feels good?
Are you irritated with Jesus because you don’t think he’s doing anything for you right now?
The things of God are only seen clearly by humans in hindsight
Maybe he is and maybe he isn’t, I don’t pretend to understand what God does and doesn’t do.
But, I have lived long enough to know without a doubt that the things of God are only seen clearly by humans in hindsight.
Only in hindsight do we clearly see what He has done.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt I know that there is a Kingdom to come.
Jesus spoke of it constantly….The Kingdom of God!
If you’re a believer keep your eyes on that prize and be encouraged.
If you aren’t a believer call upon the name of the Lord and be saved. Eternal life (God’s kingdom) or eternal death (life with the devil) are yours to choose.
Whatever you choose, you are putting your “monies” in the eternal account of tomorrow!
